Accurate Laucher Ping Rapture V2 Driver Reviewmysurbuy / 2010-08-28
The Ping Rapture V2 is the newest brand among Ping's drivers, introduced in 2009 and serving as the centerpiece of that includes fairway woods, hybrids, and irons as well. It's the successor to the Ping G10 and the original Ping Rapture lines, and looks poised to be no less of a hit. The Ping Rapture V2 Driver is a smart and aggressive addition to the renowned Ping family. The Rapture V2 Driver is another example of Ping's multi-metal approach to their popular golf clubs.
The Ping Rapture V2 Driver represents the culmination of Ping's development of multi-metal technology that combines the key properties of the materials to maximise the performance of the club. The Rapture V2's 460 cc head combines a titanium body with external tungsten weight pads that are located at the back of this driver, near the heel and toe. The weight pads position the centre of gravity to allow the Ping Rapture V2 to deliver a lower spin and high launch angle together with a higher MOI that improves both distance and accuracy. The head is plasma-welded and it's taller face has been machined to variable thicknesses to promote increased ball speed and is styled with an aggressively tapered crown featuring the Double-Rapture alignment aid.
The Ping Rapture V2 Driver is also a joy to hit with. The sound off the tee was pleasing. Not a "tink" or hollow sound, but more of a solid quality sound. I found the V2 trajectory to be a little quicker-launching through the "ideal window" about 10-20 yards off the tee. Once airborne, the V2 trajectory seemed to flatten out quicker than the G10. I attribute this to the lower spin that Ping has engineered into the club. The net result is a bit more roll once the ball hit the ground. And we can all use some more roll.
All in all, Ping golf clubs engineers have captured the hot face of the G10 and the solid sound and feel of the original Rapture and put it into the V2 package.
